\u00a0Ok. \u00a0It wasn&#8217;t that bad. \u00a0It just made for a good picture. \u00a0After breakfast, it had warmed up to about -2 and with a black car with a black interior, it didn&#8217;t take long to warm up.<\/p>\n<p>So on the road with the first planed stop being Winona (Don&#8217;t forget Winona!). \u00a0Well as the guide book says &#8220;It looks like Winona forgot itself&#8221; \u00a0There was nothing to see. \u00a0Of well. \u00a0Off to the next stops which do have something to see.<\/p>\n<p>Twin Arrows and Twin Guns are both abandoned service stations. \u00a0Both places use to be popular with tourist, however over time, they have been vandalized to the point where they are now off limits to tourist. \u00a0I was lucky at Twin Guns that there was a open gate that allowed me to get closer to the famous tanks.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/meteorcrater.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Meteor Crater Center<\/a> is a privately owned area with the worlds largest preserver meteor crater. \u00a0The crater is over 2.5 miles wide and over 550 feet deep. \u00a0 It&#8217;s an awe inspiring site. \u00a0There&#8217;s a museum on site and guided tour are available. \u00a0Worth the side trip if you&#8217;re on the area.<\/p>\n<p>Winslow was made famous by the Eagles song &#8220;Take it Easy&#8221;. \u00a0There&#8217;s a statue on the corner of Second street and Kinsley Ave. dedicated to the song. \u00a0There&#8217;s even a mural showing a reflection of the girl in the Ford on the wall behind the wall. \u00a0It was quite a fine sight to see.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_467\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-467\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-467\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icenrye.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Day3-3.jpg\" alt=\"Sign\" width=\"250\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.icenryeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Day3-3.jpg 960w, https:\/\/www.icenryeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Day3-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.icenryeblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Day3-3-900x675.jpg 900w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-467\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;Hare&#8221; it is?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next it was off to the Jackrabbit Trading post to see the famous sign. \u00a0The store itself is a typical tourist trap souvenir store with generic &#8220;Route 66&#8221; shirts and coffee mugs. \u00a0Not much else to see.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_465\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-465\" style=\"width: 188px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-465\" src=\"http:\/\/www.icenrye.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/day3-01.jpg\" alt=\"Motel\" width=\"188\" height=\"250\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-465\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">My stop for the night.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Holbrook was the next stop to visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nps.gov\/nr\/travel\/route66\/wigwam_village_hotel6_holbrook.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wigwam Motel<\/a>. \u00a0A famous motel on 66, the Wigwam is usually booked months in advance. \u00a0On this day, it look deserted. \u00a0The parking lot has various old cars and trucks parked within and proved to be an enjoyable photo stop.<\/p>\n<p>After Holbrook, there&#8217;s not too many landmarks. \u00a066 is mostly highway that runs parallel with I-40. \u00a0There were a couple of places where I could venture off the freeway and explore. \u00a0It was along one of there stretches that I stopped at an old gas station for some pics. \u00a0There I met a caretaker who showed me a couple of hidden gems at the location including two paintings that were still in good shape and not faded. \u00a0A fun spot that isn&#8217;t listed in the guide books.<\/p>\n<p>Albuquerque was reached just as the sun was going down. \u00a0Perfect timing. \u00a0The motel I&#8217;m staying at (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nonsmokersmotel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Monterey Non-Smoking Motel<\/a>) has a great looking sign and I wanted to get a picture. \u00a0The picture is on my Flickr and SmugMug site to see.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner a a great Tex-Mex restaurant in Old Town then upload pictures. \u00a0Another great day.<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow. \u00a0Side trip to Santa Fe and checking out some Albuquerque attractions, including the Unser family museum and a house once owned by a school teacher who &#8220;broke bad&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>See ya later!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today was a day I was really looking forward to. \u00a0There were many attractions I wanted to check out along this stretch of road. \u00a0So, I was up early, packed and out the door to&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;. -6C in Flagstaff with frost on the car and ice on the ground!
